Wayne A. Harvey is a highly accomplished medical professional specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology. With extensive training, experience, and expertise in the field, Dr. Harvey has made significant contributions to healthcare in Jamaica and the well-being of his patients. Born on October 22, 1969, in St. Ann, Jamaica, he has dedicated his career to providing exceptional medical care and advancing the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Harvey completed his secondary education at Calabar High, where he obtained his GCE O’ levels, and later attended Wolmer’s Boys, graduating with GCE A’ levels. His passion for medicine led him to pursue his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies (Mona), from 1988 to 1994. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB, BS) degrees from the University of the West Indies in 1994.
Driven by his commitment to further specialize in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Harvey continued his postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies (Mona), from 2000 to 2003. During this time, he obtained his Doctor of Medicine (DM) degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Harvey has acquired invaluable training and experience. From 1994 to 2000, he served as a Medical Officer at Cornwall Regional Hospital. Following this, he completed his Senior Residency in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Hospital of the West Indies from 2000 to 2003. Subsequently, he worked as a Senior Resident in the same department at Cornwall Regional Hospital from 2004 to 2008. Since 2008, Dr. Harvey has been serving as a Consulting Obstetrician and Gynecologist at Cornwall Regional Hospital, providing expert care to his patients.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Harvey is actively involved in teaching and educational responsibilities. He has been instrumental in the education and training of medical professionals, serving as a lecturer for the DM1 Obstetrics and Gynecology program. His teaching contributions include grand rounds and surgical technique teaching for the program. Furthermore, he has made significant contributions to the field through his participation in medical conferences and medical societies. Dr. Harvey has been a member of the Medical Association of Jamaica since 1996 and the Western Gynae Association of Jamaica since 2004.
Dr. Harvey’s dedication to research and his desire to improve medical practices is evident in his completed study titled “Caesarean Myomectomy – A Safe Procedure.” Through this research, he aimed to demonstrate that there is no increased morbidity or mortality associated with caesarean myomectomy. The study revealed that the procedure is safe and does not pose significant risks to patients. Dr. Harvey’s findings have contributed to promoting the use of caesarean myomectomy as a safe and effective procedure.
In recognition of his exceptional work and contributions to the medical field, Dr. Harvey has received various honors and awards. He is highly regarded for his commitment to public service, serving as the sponsor of the Annual Wayne Harvey Scholarship at Somerset All Age School since 2005. Additionally, he has served as the School Doctor at Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College and conducted a weekly high-risk antenatal clinic at Falmouth Hospital from 2004 to 2008.
Outside of his medical career, Dr. Harvey enjoys indulging in extracurricular activities. He has a passion for tennis, exercise fitness and motor racing, which provide him with a well-deserved respite from his demanding professional responsibilities.
With his wealth of experience, dedication to patient care, and contributions to the medical field, Dr. Wayne A.
